Bronx Brass Band Program

Project 204 - The first brass band in a New York City Public School (PS 204 – Bronx NY) This pilot elementary school brass band program was launched in January 2008 with 12 4th grade students, and in one year doubled in size. The opportunity to start this once per week school band program has given Gramercy Brass Orchestra a chance to reach into the very heart of a troubled school system, where band music no longer plays an important role for everyone. In this severely disadvantaged neighborhood, children who are afraid to be on the street without security or police presence are now experiencing the joy of holding a musical instrument in their hands, a life changing action they otherwise would have missed.
